Memory
While walking the dogs this evening I was listening to Radiolab's show on memory. It's really interesting. Coincidentally, I stumbled on a YouTube entry about being a paratrooper.
It's awesome.
It got me thinking about the Army. It was totally miserable, and yet I'm able to watch this silly video and laugh and remember some of the good times I had.
I vaguely remember the bad things the came in the Army, but I have vivid, lucent memories of the good times. Certainly the bad times were at least as intense, but I somehow remember them less strongly without completely suppressing them.
I've made semi-serious jokes about the secret to good marriage being forgetfulness. I wonder if the secret to a good life is forgetfulness.

I do think my bad memory is why I am able to be so happy so much of the time.
